Ken Griffey Jr., Mike Piazza Enter Baseball Hall Of Fame

Jul 25, 2016 7:36 AM

Two players who began their careers at opposite ends of the spectrum nearly three decades ago ended up in the same place on Sunday -- with their names etched on plaques at the Baseball Hall of Fame.

For Ken Griffey Jr. and Mike Piazza, the culmination of their long journeys was tinged with tears all around.

The two became a piece of history on their special day. Griffey, the first pick of the 1987 amateur draft, became the highest pick ever inducted. Piazza, a 62nd-round pick the next year -No. 1,390 -- is the lowest pick to enter the Hall of Fame.

Eric Hosmer Named All-Star Game MVP As AL Wins

Jul 13, 2016 1:02 PM

Eric Hosmer was named MVP of the All-Star Game on Tuesday as he accounted for half of the American League's production in a 4-2 win over the National League.

Hosmer hit a second-inning home run off Johnny Cueto, the first member of the Kansas City Royals to go deep in an All-Star Game since Bo Jackson in 1989.

He won a truck as part of being named MVP and said he was giving it to his dad, Michael, who stood off to the side.

"So he can stop stealing all my cars,'' Hosmer said.

David Ortiz Celebrates 2,000th Hit, 522nd HR

Jul 3, 2016 1:14 AM

David Ortiz celebrated two milestones on one hit on Friday night.

Ortiz's solo homer in the fifth inning was his 2,000th hit with Boston and 522nd career home run. With that, he moved into sole possession of 19th place on baseball's all-time list and broke a tie he held with a trio of Hall of Famers, including Red Sox great Ted Williams.

"The man did it all," Ortiz said of Williams after Boston's 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.
